Default PhotoPass vs Own Camera

Has anyone gone the route of leaving your camera at home and instead relying on PhotoPass? I am considering this for our April 2019 WDW vacation. My wife and I will have our iPhones so we will still be able to capture many special moments. And like most Disney fanatics, I have 1000's of pictures from previous WDW vacations, so I doubt I would get any pictures I haven't gotten before.

The more I think about this, the freedom of not having to worry about my camera far outweighs the potential "one in a million shots" I would miss by NOT bringing my camera.

Thoughts from people who have left their cameras at home and instead used PhotoPass, as well as thoughts from anyone who uses PhotoPass?

Thanks.

It’s only me, but I always go solely with the iPhone. Not that my pictures were worth anything when I previously brought a camera, but I haven’t missed it at all.

The most freeing thing my wife and I have done is to stop taking photos and videos on a routine basis at WDW.

We'll take a few photos of ourselves using our phones, we'll use PhotoPass a few times, but that's it.

No more spending precious vacation time taking hundreds of photos and hours of video.

We can view WDW through a screen for free from home.

We take the occasional picture with our phones but pretty much use Photopass. Have even gotten home and realize the only photos from the trip are from rides. Oops!
Using MDE to find the photographers is a good way to get the most from this perk.

Carry a camera through the parks? What?? Why? ( Sorry ... that seems so very foreign to me these days!)

Add us to the list in favor of: "iPhone + PhotoPass"

Yep, iPhone & Photopass here. iPhones for the spontaneous moments and fun selfies. Photopass for posed pictures in front of the icons and with characters. It's probably been 8 years since I've carried a camera into the parks.

Yup. No Photopass, no pictures...unless something unique happens that is an interesting photo and-and-of-itself and not specific to a "seen it a million times' Disney thing. And there are some every now and again if one is observant.

Cheers.

I selectively carry my Sony a6000 or Canon DSLR deepening on what kind of mood I am in and what parks we are going to.

I don't take pictures of us. That is what photo pass is for. I take fun and interesting pictures. I used to carry the whole kit all the time. But now I limit the amount of equipment I am will to schlep around.

I like having a viewfinder so I use my Canon G15 which is like a small DSLR.

DH uses his phone for selfies and we have gold APs so we get photopass included and use that too.

I'm happy with that mix

DW makes us stop for every photo pass opportunity and has her phone out taking pics all the time. Between that and the gift shops its a wonder we even get on any rides.
