Several reasons for not merging.

Two membership has two reservation, using home resort window and non home resort window are the most common reason.

Link/continuous stay should be used and should be guaranteed once MS has linked the reservation. It is room assigner who is doing a lazy work. By not moving guest DVC/resort saves in cleaning, checking in/out.

This creates a question for me...

If I use all of my home resort points to make my reservation at the 11 month window then use other resort points at the 7 month window to add days, shouldn't I be able to do this online without any issues?

I am able to answer this by modifying my Dec 19-Dec 24 reservation at BRV (to include 12/24 which is available this morning)- There is one option:

"Your Contract: The points from this booking will be taken from this contract."

The issue is the system will not allow you to do it!

Congrats for the holiday reservation at BRV! We did the second week of December at BRV last year but it made things a little hectic so this year we are at BRV in late November.

This has happened to me at both VGC & VGF. DVC should be able to guarantee that you won't have to move rooms if you have a continuous reservation in the same room type/view. It shouldn't be "you probably won't have to move" or "most likely you won't have to move" They system should guarantee that you won't have to move.

Disney IT could and should fix this issue now that they have "enhanced" the system.

For what its worth, I just called about my two reservations (using points from different resorts) to link them, and was told they are already linked. When I did online check-in, I checked-in the first reservation and it updated the second one as well.

Sounds as though one can add a night with a new reservation but not add to an 11 month reservation. Just link the 2 reservations.
