We are seasoned WDW vets, having celebrated the New Year at WDW 11 out of the last 13 NYE at Disney. This year we have a big group going.....we have two 2-bedrooms and two studios booked at SSR for the week, with 17 people going. The one thing we have learned over the years is planning for this week is key for a successful trip.

We have been to WDW for Christmas/NYE 12 out of the past 14 years. Our family loves it! We follow simple rules to make the trip fun.

  • Do EMH and rope drop.
  • Make dinner plans, ADRs are essential.
  • take breaks in the afternoon (11am-4pm) to avoid the worse crowds.
  • Use/choose your fastpasses wisely.
  • See all the holiday decorations and shows.
  • make memories with your family, its why you are there.
  • Use Disney transportation. Roads and parking lots will be a mess.
Losing Osborn Lights has really thrown a wrench in my trip planning. I so, so, so love those lights and miss them dearly. Spending time on NYE walking through the displays, drinking an adult beverage or three as a solid tradition for me. We will have both of our grandsons with us this year (aged 3 and 5) and don't think they are quite ready for the Epcot NYE crowd.

Red face Going for a week but...

My son and are going December 28 - January 6. This will be our second trip during NYE. We are doing a split stay...2 nights at BWV, 2 nights at BCV, and 4 nights at Poly. Last time we went we went to EPCOT and had a room at BCV. It was soooo nice to walk out the back of EPCOT and not have to worry about buses, monorail, long transportation lines, etc. It was incredibly busy and some areas were so congested it seemed almost dangerous but cleared out eventually. Needless to say fireworks were excellent.

We made a few reservations for renters the week prior that ended up falling through. We have them listed but may end up adding the week prior and "muscle our way through a long 2 week vacation at WDW over Christmas and NYE; I think we can handle that...

I wanted to try to get a reservation for "Dining with an Imagineer" at Brown Derby or Citrico's. Does anyone know if they do this during holiday weeks?

We will be at BWV 12/25-1/3. This is our first NYE at WDW but we are experienced DVC for 6 years.

Any suggestions for a NYE trip? Best option for NYE? Considering Epcot, MK, or gettting a babysitter and doing one of the parties or V&A.

Have you done the Disney Babysitting services before? This is the one that come to your location/room for a number of hours. We are trying to get a feel for other peoples experiences.

Is this just for 25th through 1st week? We booked Dec 19-24. Staying at BWV. Just booked all our ADRs. Can I confess to being a cheater...I booked a fake booking at OKW for Dec 14-19 so I could make BOG ADR for the 19th 5 days sooner than if I waited until 180 day window- which was this morning. I got the ADR 5 days ago and today there were none to be had so it's good that I did it. Cancelled the OKW fake booking and am all set. Am I a bad person???

Edit to add: count me out for the meet ups since we are doing a trip that's a tad too early.

Welcome aboard Hell Week!

I am pretty sure Disney will not have those "special" dining events since they need all hands on deck. In fact I am going to say 99.99% sure they will not have them that week.

Many folks like to do MK on the 30th and Epcot on the 31st. We went into Epcot last year on the 31st and it was mind blowing crowded. We walked in and went about one country into WS and then turned around and walked out. My DDs stayed a little longer. DH and I were at bus stop when midnight fireworks went off. We had planned to do MK that night but were terrified to go and glad we didn't. We just don't do crowds very well.

Disney does offer in room services.....See Link
There will be several parties that can be booked for NYE. They are really pricey, just be aware.

We typically go to MK on the 30th since they will have the NYE fireworks on the 30th and 31st. Traditionally, we have gone to DHS for NYE, but I am thinking about switching to Epcot this year. Osborne was my big draw at DHS, but the lights are long gone.
