I attended one of those and it had nothing to do with perks specifically for direct buyers. I'm not at liberty to discuss details but it was all based on number of points owned. It had nothing to do with resale vs. direct or what resort you owned at. It was 4 hour focus panel and resale points vs. direct points were not even part of the discussion. The more points you owned, the more perks. period. Ultimately, they want you to own more points so they get more MF revenue right? The purchase price is a one time shot. MF's last years and years and years.

I purchased direct at Aulani with only plans to stay there. I think you are getting a new market of people. It is a nice perk to be able to venture to Orlando now and then, but that was not my primary intent. Being able to possibly go on a cruise and/or use points for EuroDisney, is also appealing. I live in Los Angeles, so don't need to stay at the Grand Californian, or if I do want to stay over night, I am willing to pay a night out of pocket. Aulani is all about Hawaii for me. I love the fact that it is away from Waikiki and I love the subtle Disney touch. The hotel by far stands out from the others around it. I was willing to pay more for this Disney experience. And I get the same feeling that all of you do when they tell me "Welcome Home".

Good point. Because Disney trolls boards with speculation threads like this to try and find ways to screw their loyal customers.

Cheers.

I didn't think they could profit from MF.

Also could you at least give us the point ranges they were discussing for perks?

MF make sure the buildings are maintained and I'm betting they're not losing any money on that. What they really profit from is tickets and over-priced food and merchandise. They want loyal customers that come back every year, drop a bundle and maintain the buildings while they're at it.

I think the first cutoff was 400 - 750 then 750 - 1000, over 1000
But honestly, they kept changing the numbers to get an idea of reaction.
They were trying to determine if people would be willing to purchase more points to reach a certain level of perks.

There seemed to be people in the room representing each level. I'm sure that was deliberate. Interestingly enough, the woman across from me said I own 500 points and we only use them for cruises. I actually blurted out "really!?".

My guide told me that the cruises and other features most MOs eschew, are actually highly used by many direct buyers. Most of my friends who are DVC owners also use them for such because they don't know about renting points.

My guide said if we ever want to use our pts for a cruise to do it early b/c they only reserve certain staterooms for dvc and they go fast. So sounds the same as ur guides info

I find that so interesting, but I think that's because I assume (incorrectly) that everyone is as informed as the people who read this board. There are so many people on Mouseowners, but there are SO many more DVC owners that have never heard of it. All I could think of was, my family of 5 can cruise for under $5,000...so if you rented your points for $10 X500, then surely your family of 3 could cruise with money to spare.

I don't know if it's a matter of being "informed." It's just that many people have different priorities. They bought their points to enjoy at WDW and cruises; they use them that way; they are happy.

Oh, sure, they could create a small business to rent out their points and make enough profit to both pay for their cruise and put a few bucks in their pocket. But they aren't interested in that.
