Additional Info About Ko 'Olina

Walt Disney Parks & Resorts on Thursday unveiled a model of a resort scheduled to open on Oahu in 2011.

The mixed-used resort includes 350 hotel rooms and 480 vacation villas for Disney Vacation Club members.

The family-focused resort will be located on 21 acres at Ko Olina Resort & Marina in West Oahu.

Disney officials expect the project to generate 1,000 new jobs ranging from entry-level positions to management.

Jay Rasulo, chairman of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, declined to provide cost estimates for the project, room pricing, whether employees might have labor representation, or how much access to the property local residents will have.

The resort will feature two towers, gardens, pools, water slides, a fake volcano caldera, spa, banquet and meeting space, and wedding facilities.

Disney film characters played by humans, such as mermaids, are expected to play a regular role at the resort.

This is Disney�s first vacation club-hotel venture to be separate from its theme parks in California, Florida and Japan. Disney also operates vacation clubs in Vero Beach, Fla., and Hilton Head, S.C.

Disney announced its plans at Kapolei Hale, Honolulu�s second city hall. Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann, City Councilman Todd Apo, Ko Olina developer Jeff Stone and Ko Olina resort executive John Toner attended.

Rasulo said Disney is confident about the long-term prospects for Hawaii�s tourist economy, currently in the midst of one of its most serious downturns.

Doorway to Dreams Changeover!

We just received word that Disney's Doorway to Dreams (located at the Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg, IL) will be converting its model rooms from the Animal Kingdom Villas to the Bay Lake Tower.

Construction will begin next week and will likely start with the One Bedroom Villa and will subsequently wrap up with the Studio Villa (for a Two Bedroom Villa as the finished product).

They expect construction to be completed by Thanksgiving!

So, you'll be able to go to DDD and view the "Magic Kingdom" directly from your balcony! If this isn't another great reason to visit DDD, then I don't know what is! :)

Some BLT Facts/Analysis

1. The resort will open in Fall of 2009, subject to change.

2. There are 281 mixed-use rooms. Studios, 1BRs, 2BRs (lock-off and dedicated), and GVs all are available.

3. The contract end date is January 31, 2060.

4. There will be no pool hopping allowed to the Bay Cove Pool.

5. There will be an interactive children's water area.

6. Guests at BLT will be allowed to make use of the amenities at CR, including room service. Access to CR can be achieved via the covered pedestrian Sky Way Bridge.

7. Access to MK and Epcot is available by monorail. Access to other MK resorts is by boat or monorail. Access elsewhere is by bus.

8. There will be a "Top of the World" lounge from which BLT guests who have reservations will be allowed to view MK fireworks.

9. MFs will be $3.67 ppt for 2009. (DVC is providing a $.05 ppt developer subsidy, included in that price, while the resort is under construction.) MFs can be expected to remain relatively low due to the simple infrastructure (1 building) and the sharing of resources with an already extant resort (CR).

10. The room share will be approximately as follows: 10% Standard Views, 10-20% MK Views, 70-80% Bay Lake Views.

11. If compared with AKV, points values are considerably higher at BLT: Example: Studios. (I have used the studio as an example because they still are the most sought-after reservations.)

BLT Standard View Rooms require 41-49% more points than stays in AKV Value Rooms.
BLT Standard View rooms require 20-28% more points than stays in AKV Standard Rooms.
BLT Lake View Rooms require 29-41% more points than stays in AKV Standard Rooms.
BLT Lake View Rooms require 10-17% more points than stays in AKV Savanna View Rooms.
BLT MK View Rooms require 14-21% more points than Stays in AKV Concierge Rooms.
BLT Lake View Rooms require 17-27% more points that a fictional AKV Room that is something between a Standard and a Savanna View.

12. BLT owners may be able to make reservations in March for stays beginning in September.

Just thought some people might find this info helpful as they try to sort it all out. Although the dues are low, BLT owners are definitely paying a points premium for the MK location.

BLT's Two Bedroom Villas are quite spacious. Designed to accommodate up to nine (9) guests, these Two Bedroom Villas provide a welcome degree of privacy with separate living and sleeping quarters.

The suite features a king-size bed in the bedroom. In the second bedroom of the dedicated two bedroom villa, you will find a variation of sleeping accommodations. While most rooms have the �DVC standard� of a queen bed plus a full sleeper, several of the rooms have been altered to have two queen beds in the second bedroom. This can be very helpful in accommodating large families. These rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and are guaranteed at the time you make your reservation.

A queen-size sleeper sofa and a comfy pull-out sleeper chair await you in the living room. Master Bathroom facilities include a whirlpool tub, shower and double vanity. Two additional full bathrooms complete the facilities.

All Two Bedroom Villas include a full kitchen stocked with all the necessary cookware and utensils. Those without access to transportation may purchase groceries for in-room meal preparation. Grocery delivery service is also available.

Designed to accommodate up to four (4) guests, the Studio Villa is similar to a �standard� hotel room, with the amenities of a Walt Disney World Deluxe resort.

Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort is the latest addition to Disney Vacation Club Resorts and just steps away from the Magic Kingdom. Located next to the landmark Disney's Contemporary Resort, this 15-story building combines both warmth and style. It's a family-friendly resort with all the comforts and convenience. Hop aboard the monorail for a quick ride to the Parks or take the walking path over. View the fireworks from the planned Top of the World Lounge. Dine at a variety of nearby eateries or sail on shimmering Bay Lake. The magic is just outside your door!
