Pros: Very well maintained; nice setting
Cons: Can hear every noise your neighbors make; front desk cast members need some pixie dust training!!

My husband, daughter and I took our first trip to HH resort in August 2008. It was our first foray outside of the parks and, I'm sorry to say, I was disappointed. The resort itself was beautiful. It was well maintained, the one bedroom was the same familiar format and there was that Disney "feel" in the air - VERY similar to Port Orleans Riverside actually and I think that was part of the problem.

We arrived EARLY for our check in and knew our room would not be ready, but we gave it a shot. A very nice CM assisted us and provided us with all of the details of the island. As the room was not ready, we ventured to the local IHOP for breakfast. After breakfast we returned to the resort and went to the front desk to make sure the day shift CM had our cell phone number. She was quite rude with us, but we chalked it up to our being tired from the 10 hour drive the night before so off to the pool we went. We enjoyed our afternoon and returned to the front desk around 2 p.m. to check on status - we have a toddler who was getting quite anxious. Although we recognize poor planning on our part from a nap perspective for our daughter, the CM was again very unpleasant. She became even more so when I questioned why the gentleman next to me was being checked into a 1 bedroom and we were told there were none available. Low and behold one then became available.

We made it up to our room which was quite pleasant. We got settled and went grocery shopping to stock up. Overall, we were very pleased with the room. It is the same layout as the 1 bdr at any of the WDW resorts. As the evening progressed we got ready to settle into bed. At this point however, our neighbors above returned home for the evening. We could hear everything and I mean everything!! This would be my true complaint with the HH resort. The walls seem to be paper thin and we never experienced this before in WDW. Maybe its due to building codes or something, but it is not good.

Regardless, the beach house is beautiful as is the pool house area at the resort. The bike rental is fantastic and it truly is a beautiful area to visit, but as we learned, not necessarily for us. As we relaxed on our porch in the evenings we yearned for the parks. Well, you live and learn, however, this is a cautionary tale for the park addicts - don't stray from the formula if you aren't 100% certain.

We are now planning a February 2009 trip b/c we are having withdrawal!!

Pros: Home comforts and Disney themed activities
Cons: Need a bike to really enjoy

Our family just returned from HHI, where we spent New Year's. The temperature was colder than we expected, but the resort had some wonderful activities that the kids participated in - all were Disney themed (Goofy bingo). We stayed in a 1 bedroom that was very spacious and nice. We didn't have any problems with noise, but we were on the top floor. We were, however, near the lobby and had about a 5 minute walk to the pool area, which isn't really in the middle of the resort. This probably would not have bothered us so much, though, if it had been warmer. The shuttle to the beach house only ran from 10-4, so to really get the most out of the beach access one would need to rent a bike. There is a nifty bike path that goes underneath the busy highway and will take you to the beach house, which is open way past 4. We loved the resort itself, it just felt so cozy and the staff were great, they made us feel right at home - they gave us several gifts every time we went to the lobby, which had its own little perks - like hot apple cider, cookies, and coffee. The fishing wasn't too great, but there again, it was cold! The New Years Eve party rocked, though, and the kids had a blast - my teenagers jumped in the pool at midnight with their clothes on! We would definitely go there again -- true, it isn't the same world as the theme parks, but it is a nice beach getaway and offers a slower paced vacation than you get when going to WDW. Happy travels!
